Shortlisted: Halliday Wine Companion's 'Best Sauvignon Blanc from the 2027 Wine Companion' (#7)
Pale straw. Intense and concentrated aromatics of nettle, struck flint, preserved lemon, and grapefruit pith are complexed by subtle peach and nectarine fruit, clotted cream and spice. The palate is again led by citrus/stonefruit, flint, spice and savoury mirerality. Fleshy, textured and long with fine acid - this wine shares many similarities with the style and weight of the Chardonnays we produce, and cannot be recommended highly enough for lovers of those wines.
The balance, structure and concentration ensure a long life ahead.
REVIEWS
"Off the back of an excellent version in 2023, here’s another tilt at top flight Australian, proper sauvignon blanc. Lots of flavour, great, puckering and pumice-like texture with a lively dose of lime juice over it all. Scents and flavours of honeysuckle, frangipani, green apple, sea spray, green almond, cucumber and tonic water with dashes of nougat and vanilla. A total immersion in the variety and the winemaking overlay, but it works, and then some, to produce a thirst-slaking white of immense complexity, interest, and a sense of energy and drive. And then some restraint and tension? Sheesh. This does a lot. Excellent." - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front (95 Points)
"The 2024 Pyren Vineyard Warrenmang Sauvignon Blanc is restrained and spicy aromatically, but the palate is a veritable explosion of flavor. It features dried alpine herbs, a gentle bitterness (highly attractive), crushed rocks and brine. The texture is the real standout here, showing a chalky disposition that lingers through the finish. This is a complex, unexpected and elevated Sauvignon Blanc. It's excellent." - Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate USA (95 Points)
"A fumé style, and so good, as it’s textural and luscious yet crisp and dry. It’s savoury and super spicy, a little floral and citrusy, with a dash of lemon oil. Creamed honey and nutty lees bolster the palate, with neat phenolics and acidity pulling the finish together neatly. This is excellent on its own but with food it really shines." - Jane Faulkner, Wine Companion (95 Points)
"The bouquet is all about nutty, savoury creamy/waxy aromas suggestive of barrel fermented wine, and not very varietal in the usual modern way. It's intense and spicy on the tongue with flavours more reminiscent of sauvignon blanc, but more complex: gooseberry, lemon, herbal and again a spicy hint of the barrel. A serious sauvignon blanc with complexity and depth." - Huon Hooke, The Real Review
